Book Spotlight: 'The Last Straw' - A Flood of Optimism for Our Planet

The first time I read The Last Straw: Kids vs. Plastics, my heart just flooded with emotion. This book 🥹.

One of many we’ve been reading during Earth Month, this title is special. In addition to laying out the big issues we’re up against, it is packed with real stories of children who have been inventing solutions. My son, Weston, cried because it’s a library book and he wants to own it forever (and we will). I cried because if there’s ever been a moment I worried about the future of the planet my kids will inherit, this book flooded me with optimism for all the ways they’ll clean it up. I’m reminded of what Christiana Figueres taught me about the importance of optimism when it comes to the planet's future.

The Book: A Must-Read for Everyone

This children's book on plastics and environmental solutions is truly a powerful read for all ages. It highlights the problem of plastic pollution but focuses on the positive action being taken by young people around the world. As the iconic Jane Goodall said herself, everyone should read this book, and I truly can’t agree more. It’s an inspiring and essential addition to any family's bookshelf as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of caring for our planet.
