The Best Kids' Books About Fall: Our Seasonal Reading List
“Autumn… the year’s last, loveliest smile.”
William Cullen Bryant
I love celebrating the change in season with my kids so they can feel the rhythms of life. As the days get shorter and the air gets chillier, we have more time for cuddling up to read together. Here’s what’s on our shelf to welcome fall:
Tender story of a scarecrow who saves a baby crow brings to life the power of friendship and is one of my favorite children’s books of all time
Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak:
The illustrations! the sweet story! the chance for parents to invent voices for 11 different elements of nature!
Lila and the Crow by Gabrielle Grimard:
Set in stunning fall watercolors, this book ignited an empathetic conversation about bullying and how our differences are truly our strengths.
How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin? by Margaret McNamara:
Fall’s favorite fruit introduced our kids to counting by twos, fives, and tens, and that smaller doesn’t mean lesser than.
The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming:
You can’t think of a more entertaining way to learn about how trees change in fall than through Squirrel’s wildly dramatic response to it.
Acorn Was a Little Wild by Jen Arena:
Acorn is a thrill-seeker with a passion for adventure these wild guys can relate to
Sleep Tight Farm by Eugenie Doyle:
As urban dwellers in a climate with minimal change in seasons, this transported us to another way of life
Construction Site: Farming Strong, All Year Long by Sherri Duskey Rinker:
Technically, this is all the seasons. Sherri always makes the most readable rhymes with plenty of trucks.
