My Dad Rocks! Father’s Day Craft

This project makes a sweet Father’s Day gift, but it also works beautifully for birthdays or just because. Kids will love painting, gluing, and giggling while they turn pebbles into people. Bonus: it’s a great opportunity to talk about what makes Dad (or grandpa!) such a rock star.

You’ll Need:

  • Small rocks (2 per card)

  • Googly eyes (4 per card)

  • Acrylic paint (any colors your child loves)

  • Cardstock

  • Paintbrushes or sponges

  • Black marker or paint pen

  • White glue or a hot glue gun (grown-up use only!)

  • Optional: smocks or old T-shirts for painting

Let’s Make It:

1. Paint Your Canvas
Start with a piece of cardstock or thick white paper. Let your child choose their favorite paint colors and cover the page with bold, beautiful brushstrokes. This is their background—so let them go wild!

2. Pick Your Pebbles
Find two small, flat rocks that can be “Dad” and “kid.” You can hunt for them outside together or grab a bag of craft stones from a store. Let your child choose which rock looks like them and which one looks like Dad!

3. Give Them Personality
Glue googly eyes on each rock. Once dry, use your marker or paint pen to draw on happy smiles.

4. Add Arms and Legs
Glue the rocks to your painted cardstock. Once they’re secure, draw little stick arms and legs—bonus points if they’re holding hands!

5. Add the Message
Use your marker or paint pen to write “My Dad Rocks!” at the top and bottom of the card. Let your child help or do it themselves if they’re practicing letters!

Sweet Add-On Ideas:

  • On the back, help your child write a note about why their dad rocks.

  • Turn it into a card by folding the paper in half before decorating.

  • Add hearts, stars, or stickers to personalize even more.
